Job Description
About Our Team We're a team that builds solutions. We don't just build models; we partner with our colleagues to solve their problems and make an impact. We are a hands-on, practical team that values curiosity, ownership, and a shared passion for the work.
We're looking for a Data Scientist who is a natural problem-solver, loves to learn, and is genuinely excited by data.
What You'll Actually Do
- Build and deploy statistical and machine learning models using SAS, Python, and SQL.
- Design and build new AI-driven solutions to tackle complex business problems.
- Handle the full data lifecycle: Find the data, clean it, prepare it, and perform the ad-hoc analysis needed to understand it.
- Solve logic puzzles: Dig into complex, unstructured problems and figure out a clear path to a solution.
- Communicate your findings: Build clear visualizations and dashboards to explain what you found and what it means.
- Work on our platforms: You'll use AWS and SAS Viya as your primary environments for building and deploying.
What We're Looking For
- Your Toolkit: Strong, practical experience in SAS, Python, and SQL.
- Your Foundation: A strong academic background (Honours, Master's, or PhD) in a quantitative field. This is crucial because you will need a deep, theoretical understanding of stats and modeling - not just how to run a model, but why you're choosing it.
- Your Experience:
- Proven experience in building and deploying ML/statistical models.
- Strong data preparation and data-wrangling skills.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (like AWS) and large-scale analytic environments (like SAS Viya).
- Experience using visualization tools (like SAS Visual Analytics) to tell a story with data.
Who You Are
We're looking for someone who:
- Is intensely curious (Find the 'Why') You are hungry to learn and treat mistakes as the fastest path to progress, not as failures. You're always asking "why?" and "why not?"
- Is a true partner (Be the Business) You're not just a coder. You're comfortable sitting with colleagues to understand their problems and needs before you write a single line of code.
- Takes ownership (Own It) You own your work from start to finish. You're open and honest, admit mistakes, and focus on finding a solution, not on placing blame. You define your success by the impact you make.
- Is all-in (All In, All Together) You're a team player, not a solo-flyer. You work hard, actively help your colleagues, share what you know, and can challenge ideas respectfully (and be challenged yourself).
- Loves the work (Enjoy the Ride) You genuinely enjoy the process of solving difficult problems. You celebrate wins - big or small - and find satisfaction in the work itself, not just the final result.
